Smartphones have literally taken over the world. Everyone has one, everyone wants one. Hip hop has moved from the record store to the web on your smartphone. Having moved from the basement to corporate society, Hip hop is quickly 'moving with the times'. Dance music has been blended with Hip hop, so much that famous diamond status artists have taken the genre to new heights. Now, for an authentic Hip hop loving fan like me, this new age sound can get a bit annoying. What happening to the art of Hip hop? Is it really all about the bling, explicit lyrics and clubbing? I honestly enjoy classic Rap joints that allow b-boys and b-girls to hit the floor and boogie down. So, it is time for Hip hop to get back to its essence; being an entity of its own. We do not need to ride on the wave of electro or house for us to keep growing.
Solution? I say genuine hip hop lovers should create an even greater community online. There must be an unofficial Hip Hop appreciation day where artists and fans alike network and celebrate diversity through music. Unsigned artists need to collaborate i.e African Hip hop artists collab with American, European and Asian Hip hop artists. Through intergration, Hip hop shall remain in the hands of talent-driven musicians with the tenacity to propel it further than what it has reached in recent times. Dance music is a genre on its own. Rather collab and call it Dance, than Hip hop. Ressurect Hip Hop to its glory. Let the beat live on within us. Oneness
Ever since Hip hop started, Mcs have been battling. The battle is a friendly competition between two or more wordsmiths, where words are exchanged in order to 'move the crowd'. A true rapper knows how to hold it down, yet entertain the masses at the same time. Hip hop has evolved due to the amount of hype created by battles. Also, battles occur between b-boys, graffiti artists, and producers. Some do it for popularity, others do it to enhance their abilities. Whichever way we may look at battlin, it is a whole lot of fun.
I for one partake in battlin on a daily basis. Many rappers come from all over J-City, soweto and other hoods to freestyle with the Magic crew. We host Hip hop sessions every Friday, where talented unsigned artists perform to the Hip hop community. Some of the most hectic, skill-based battles happen at our sessions. This promotes unity amongst young people with equal ambition and dedication to Hip hop. Magic music is everything that is the sub-culture known as Hip hop. Rap music goes beyond social, cultural and racial differences. At the click of a button you can connect with Hip hop lovers all over the globe. Thanks to social networks like Facebook, Google Talk and Twitter, Hip hop is able to reach a greater audience. With that being said, I encourage the Rap community worldwide to join us in the evolution of Hiphop. Share music, videos and interesting links with the Magic fam. Go to Reverbnation.com and download Legendary Wordsmiths by Magic Music Allstars. Post comments on our blog. Hip hop lives forever yall.

Growing up in the hood, I am constantly ask why I listen to Hip Hop music. Apart from the fact that I like it and it sounds nice to my ears, i relate to it. Hip Hop has transcended into a realm of its own. It has reached many people from across the globe, uniting various cultural and social groups. I look at my own life, Hip hop has given me a voice and identity that seperates me from others, yet it has united me with a community of intellectuals, expressionists and poets alike. Debates and provocative conversations are the norm in my circles. We share information, knowledge and wisdom daily.
Hip Hop therefore is a form of enrichment. Rap music is the verbal expression of the hip hop movement. Rap speaks to the world. Mcs have become mordern-day prophets. They practise true freedom of speech. So, when you see an mc freestyling, give him/her the props they deserve. It takes guts to stand up and speak what you believe. I constantly surf the web looking for unsigned artists. Sites like Reverbnation.com and Soundcloud.com have given me the opportunity to hear fresh Hip Hop, as well share music with others. We ought to build a bigger community for Hip Hop y'all. Become a member and share your views, news and links on magicmusicallstars.blogspot.com. Check out Legendary Wordsmiths by Magic Music on the Reverbnation link on the blog. One!

Hip hop has come a long way since the old skool times. The new age has offered innovative sounds that diversify Hip hop as a whole. Kids from all walks of life are now relating to rap music. Listening to the new age style, one notices the emphasis of 808 drum-kicks and electronic sound that make 2011 Hip hop. However, real authentic hip hop has become a thing of the past. We no longer rush to the record store and wait to get our hands on our favourite mc's album. Every thing is digital. The web has given unsigned artists a vast platform for exposure and growth.
